Fertilized rat ova were histochemically examined for their fibrinolytic activity. Activity was found during tubal passage, which disappeared at implantation. Simultaneously the fibrinolytic activity of the endometrium disappeared at deciduation. These changes might be a prerequisite for implantation of the zygote.
The significance of fibrinolysis for ovum transport and zygote implantation was histochemically studied in fertilized rat ova. Fibrinolytic activity was observed during tubal passage of ova, and disappeared during implantation. At the same time, endometrial fibrinolytic activity disappeared at deciduation. It is suggested that these changes in fibrinolytic activity are necessary for implantation of the zygote in the rat.
